Capsule coffee is usually a compromise: you accept an average cup in exchange for a fast one. Cantata’s capsules are an attempt to remove the compromise. They are filled with the same calibre of Arabica we sell as whole bean and roasted by CoffeeRoots, then sealed to preserve aroma until the machine punctures the pod. Seven blends cover intensity 3 through 9, from a smooth Guatemalan decaf to a full-bodied Arabica and Robusta blend, all at AED 29 for a box of 10.

The set is deliberately built as a range rather than a collection of variations. If you own a Nespresso machine and more than one person drinks from it, you can cover morning espresso, afternoon lungo and evening decaf with three boxes.

How to read the intensity scale

Intensity is not a measure of caffeine. It describes body, roast depth and bitterness, which is why a decaf can sit at 3 and a caffeinated Arabica at 9 without the caffeine content following the same order. As a rough guide:

  • Intensity 3 to 5 suits lungo, americano and anyone who finds espresso harsh. Decaf Guatemala sits here.
  • Intensity 6 to 7 is the everyday espresso band. Barista, French Espresso, King Blend and Vivaldi all live here, and all four hold up under milk in a cappuccino or flat white.
  • Intensity 8 to 9 is for short, concentrated ristretto and espresso where you want weight and a long finish. Monteverdi’s Robusta content adds crema stability and a spice note. Intenso is the strongest cup in the range.

If you are unsure, start with French Espresso at intensity 6. It is the most broadly liked profile and a sensible reference point for judging the others.

Arabica, Robusta and what the split does

Six of the seven capsules are 100% Arabica, which brings sweetness, acidity and aromatic complexity. Monteverdi is the exception at 80% Arabica and 20% Robusta. Robusta contributes body, a thicker and more persistent crema, and roughly double the caffeine of Arabica by weight. That is why traditional Italian espresso blends include it, and why Monteverdi is the pick if your espresso currently feels thin.

Decaf without the drop in quality

Decaf Guatemala is a single-origin-style decaffeinated Arabica rather than a generic decaf filler. At intensity 3 it is deliberately gentle, so it works as an evening cup, as a lungo, and for anyone reducing caffeine intake without giving up the ritual.

Capsules for Nespresso

Capsules, beans or ground?

Capsules are the right answer when the priority is speed, consistency and zero cleanup. They are not the cheapest way to drink good coffee, and they do not let you adjust dose or grind. If you want more control, our single origin coffee and specialty coffee ranges are ground to order for espresso machines, moka pots, V60 and French press. Many customers keep capsules for weekday mornings and beans for the weekend.

For dessert and aromatic profiles in capsule format, see flavoured capsules for Nespresso, which covers vanilla, caramel and similar flavour-infused pods. For a no-machine option, there is instant coffee.

Getting the best out of a capsule machine

Descale on the schedule your manufacturer specifies, since scale in the water circuit lowers brewing temperature and flattens extraction more than most people realise. Preheat the cup by running a blank shot of water through the machine first, especially for short espresso where a cold ceramic cup can drop the drink several degrees before you taste it. Use filtered water. Store unused capsules in a cool cupboard rather than beside the machine, where residual heat degrades the coffee inside the pod.
